My Name is Marta

Hi, I'm a seven-year-old girl from a place called Cotzal in Northern Guatemala. I got a pretty big family with my two sisters and four brothers. We're good at sticking together. My favourite bit at school is math, that's a lot of fun. After school, I help out at home by cleaning. And running? Oh, I do love running a lot!

We live kind of simple here, most families have small farms to grow stuff like maize and other tasty vegetables which we sell at the markeT. A lot of our dads leave for work in coffee farms for months. I've heard stories of an ugly war that happened before I was born and, it's tough, but we're getting by.

I'm super grateful for child sponsorship! Before they came, half of my friends couldn't go to school because they didn't have enough food or their parents couldn't afford it. But now, almost all of us are learning together. The people from the sponsorship teach us lots of cool things - like how to stay healthy and how to farm better. And you know what's the best part? I can dream of a better future.
