Groups of 15-25 women are organized into Community Savings Groups. These women - usually the most vulnerable in their community - are educated with invaluable skills like literacy, book-keeping, money management and personal savings. In Bangladesh, where women are often oppressed, these groups have incredible potential as the group members set aside their savings and watch them grow into substantial amounts that can then be loaned out to others in their community.
Aklima is one woman whose entire future was changed in a Community Savings Group. After joining the group, she was able to start up and operate her own retail business.
