Workshops

Whether you run a benevolence program for your church community, lead global mission teams, run a small business, or simply care deeply about issues you see in your own backyard, FH has curated a selection of workshops that will equip you to make a difference. These workshops will help you examine the root issues of and solutions to poverty within your personal context. You can choose from whole day or half day conference-style sessions as well as lunch-and-learn seminars. After you select the best fit for your team, FH facilitators will happily customize it to your specific situation.

Request a workshop and we will supply all the basics you need to make it happen—including tips on hosting a great event. Virtual and small group in-person workshops are available. Check out the variety of virtual or in-person workshops available below.

Ending Poverty Together Workshop

EPT Workshop is an interactive workshop from a biblical foundation designed to help redefine your understanding of poverty—both causes and solutions—in Canada and abroad. Connect with individuals in your community while gaining a healthy, hope-filled approach to poverty alleviation. Join thousands of Canadians who have enjoyed the interactive content, videos, and discussion.

UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF AND OTHERS WORKSHOP

Discover why you and others think, behave, and communicate so differently and learn how to bridge those gaps. Misunderstandings are often rooted in personality differences. See how identifying these can help your team—whether family, church, or business—flourish and succeed together. Utilizing the Personality Style Indicator (PSI), a trained facilitator will guide your group into healthier ways of relating to one another.

HELPING WITHOUT HURTING IN SHORT-TERM MISSIONS WORKSHOP

Taking core ideas from Brian Fikkert’s book When Helping Hurts and applying them to short-term mission trips, FH facilitators help prepare your leaders with practical guidelines and examples for doing short-term missions without doing long-term harm. This workshop fosters interaction and reflection within your team.

LISTEN UP WORKSHOP

FH and Telecare Crisis and Caring Line have teamed up to offer a half-day, online workshop designed to help anyone who wants to improve their supportive listening skills. Expect dynamic facilitators, videos, activities, and discussion times. Together we will explore God’s heart for listening, and how to be present in a meaningful way to others in this age of so-many-distractions.

  • "[The workshop] re-focused my thinking about who the poor are. Our culture tends to paint the poor as lazy, not smart, needing a hand out, etc when in fact we need to lift our eyes to see them as worthy of respect and assistance, capable of systemic change given the right opportunities." - Workshop Attendee (Langley, BC)

  • "I loved it - definitely exceeded my expectations! I really think everyone who is involved in advocacy needs to take this." - Workshop Attendee (Vernon, BC)

  • "The training helped us to think strategically about how we help people... We were challenged to think about long-term solutions instead of short-term fixes." - Pastor Craig (Abbotsford, BC)

  • "FH gets it and has excellent facilitators with adaptable training content for global and local contexts. Partnering with FH has been refreshing." - Wendi (Winnipeg, MB)

Your Will and the Next Generation
Many of us want to leave a legacy for the next generation. We share our faith, love, experience, and encouragement. A well-crafted will can also be part of that lasting and meaningful legacy. When you plan thoughtfully and strategically, you can give your loved ones more than just money; you can teach them about generosity, responsibility, financial accountability, and wise tax planning.

You are invited to join us for a webinar hosted by our partners at Advisors with Purpose. You will hear one family's experience with passing on a legacy of good financial stewardship, including money management, debt, and living generously, and the strategies that are available to you as well. They will discuss RRSPs, vacation properties, trusts, talking to your family, choosing an executor, living wills/personal directives, charitable giving, and powers of attorney. What a wonderful gift this would be for your family and the next generation.
