My Name is Nelly

Hi there! I'm an 11-year-old girl from a little village called Burukuru in the far eastern part of Uganda, near the mountains. I have 3 sisters and 1 brother, and I'm proud to say that I'm a pretty good student at school - especially in math. When I'm not helping out with chores like fetching water for my family, I'm usually playing soccer with my pals!

Life here in Burukuru isn't always easy, you see. We've got about 562 families in our community and after many years of war, lots of us are struggling to get by. Before Food for the Hungry (FH) came around, things like clean water and enough food to eat were really hard to find.

But thanks to people like you, things are getting better! The nice folks from FH visit us, and they teach my parents how to grow vegetables and take care of animals like goats and cows. They even help my village plan for the future!

Every day, I count my blessings - for the FH team, for school, for soccer, and for people like you who give us hope. I really hope that you'll keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
