Hunger and malnutrition kill more people every year than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. It poses a serious threat to children in communities struggling in poverty. But together, we can help stop malnutrition and give children the healthy, active childhood they deserve.
The month of May is a hungry time for many Burundians - it’s right before the June harvest when the little food that was stored up has run out. When Chaltiel’s family felt the pinch last May, he started skipping school to forage for food. But a local FH staff member found out what was happening and quickly intervened to encourage this little boy and provide emergency food aid for his family - the dried soup mix!
Combined with affordable rice and plantains, the soup mix replaced expensive beans as the family’s source of protein and nutrients. Not only did they have food to eat, again, they had good food to eat!
“My family finds the soup very delicious.”
As a result, Chaltiel went back to school and finished Grade 3 with excellent marks. Thank you for giving generously so more children like Chaltiel can get the food they need to have the education they deserve.
