Q. Food for the Hungry... So do you provide food aid?
A. FH Canada;s name is a bit misleading. Some of what we provide, especially in emergency situations, is food aid, but the majority of our work goes far beyond that. We recognize that the poor need more than just food - they also need the dignity and hope that come when their hearts, minds and souls receive nourishment. We help communities meet their integrated needs (physicial, social, spiritual and educational) through our community development programs.
Q. How does FH Canada choose which programs to implement and which communities to work with?
A. FH Canada works within Food for the Hungry International (FH) to implement programs in areas with greatest need and with potential for meaningful local partnerships. We already have pre-existing connections, through FH and other organizations, with most of the communities we enter. The first step is always to do a feasibility study to ensure the community wants to participate in development activities, and to also ensure no other organization is already doing similar work in the area. Once we are sure the community is in need and eager to participate, we work with them to develop a work plan based on their local assets.
Q. How much of FH Canada's income is spent on administration costs?
A. FH Canada strives to keep our administration costs as low as possible. For every dollar donated to FH Canada:
87¢ is spent on programs to help the poor
8¢ is spent on administration and running costs
5¢ is invested to generate future income
Q. If I donate to FH Canada how will I know how my money is spent?
A. As a Certified Member of the Canadian Council for Christian Charities, FH Canada meets the stringent standards set by the CCCC for accountability and organizational integrity. This is our commitment to you:
- We will spend your money only where there is the greatest need.
- We will work only through trusted local partner organizations that can guarantee the safe delivery of your support.
- We will make your money stretch as far as possible by using innovative, cost-effective methods.
- We will operate efficiently, spending a minimum of resources on fundraising and administration.
As well, you will receive regular newsletters and reports from our international programs, and will have access to an annual report and audite financial statements.
Q. I want to help people in need, where do I start?
A. FH Canada offers Canadians a number of different ways to reach out to the developing world. One of the most popular options is through child sponsorship.
Q. How can I sponsor a child?
A. It's an easy way to make a big difference in a child's life. Just go to the Sponsorship tab and choose the child you would like to support.
