How It Works

  • An FH Canada CDP sponsorship is different than traditional sponsorship programs because the entire community is empowered to meet the critical needs of the children, rather than just the individual child or family.
  • Funds for each sponsored child ($38 per month) go towards community-driven programs that best and most effectively meet the critical needs of the children. This includes education, health care, access to clean water, healthy meals, disease-prevention training, group activities and the opportunity to learn about God's love – all backed by local community members and FH staff.
  • Parents are educated about the crucial role they play in their child's life as they come alongside and nurture their child's pursuit of personal excellence. As the child develops holistically, parents are also learning to generate income and then can begin to meet the needs of their children on their own and celebrate the success of their family's achievements.
  • Because the monthly funds are used for the development of the community to meet the critical needs of the children rather than the individual child, every child in the community benefits from the programs; no child is considered more fortunate than others. Funding is intentionally designed to create a thriving community of children built on equality.
  • Child sponsors have several opportunities throughout the year to send their sponsored child a letter – this relationship can be a foundational component of their growth and development.
  • Through the structured implementation of CDP funds, child sponsors play an integral role in giving countless children the chance to pursue their dreams.

FAQ

Q. Why does FH Canada place so much emphasis on helping children?

A. Children are innocent victims of poverty and we believe we have a special calling to care for them. They are the first to suffer from lack of food, dirty water and poor sanitary conditions. Funded by sponsors, dedicated staff provide access to food, education, medical care, clothing and spiritual instruction to needy children and FH Canada's Child Development Programs are designed to benefit the entire community, not just the sponsored children.

Q. How are children helped?

A. Your gifts are used to help people advance beyond meeting their basic needs through projects which include food-growing assistance, clean water development, public health education, medical care, child development programs, income generating programs, and education. All of our projects are administered by skilled staff members, and are implemented using a biblically-shaped strategy called Vision of Community (VoC).

Q. How much does Child Sponsorship cost?

A. Individual sponsorships are $38 per month. Regular support is deeply appreciated and is the key to the development of the child.

Q. How long must I sponsor?

A. We appreciate long-term sponsorship. Sponsorship for less than a year is difficult for the child to understand and also increases the administrative expenses of the program. Short sponsorships also limit your ability to become acquainted with your child.

Q. What if I fall behind?

A. We have made commitments to the field and you are the key in helping us keep those commitments. Therefore, your regular and faithful giving is vital. If you should come to a place of difficulty in your sponsorship, please let us know. We understand that at times it may become difficult to make sponsorship payments.

Q. Will I always have the same child?

A. Generally, you will sponsor the same child for the duration of your commitment to our program. However, there are times when this is no longer possible, including when:

  • the family moves out of the community where our program is active;
  • the child marries (marriage at a young age is common in other cultures);
  • the child or his/her parents no longer wish to be a part of the program;
  • the child graduates from school;
  • the child dies;
  • the community becomes self-sustaining, and FH Canada is able to move its resources to another needy community.

Should your sponsored child no longer need your assistance, we will send you a replacement child with a letter explaining why your original sponsored child is no longer in the program

Q. How can I visit my sponsored child?

A. If you are planning to be in the area where your sponsored child lives, it is possible to visit him/her. Arrangements are made by our National Office once you have completed our application process, which is designed to protect both you and the child. Please get in touch with us at least four months before you are planning to leave Canada. You are responsible for all expenses and are expected to abide by the policies set forth by FH Canada and the field office staff in the country/community where the visit takes place.
