Children are innocent victims of poverty and often the first to suffer from lack of food, clean water and healthy sanitation. At Food for the Hungry we believe we have a special calling to care for them. FH’s Child Development Program is designed to benefit the entire community: it works together with parents and community leaders to ensure that all children receive hope for their future. Kayanza is the most populated province of Burundi and its revenues are derived almost exclusively from agriculture. Major problems facing Burundian farmers today are poor soil quality, a declining rainfall, the destruction of forests and other ecosystems and an increase in returning refugees, which results in more tree-cutting for firewood and wood for shelters. This project focuses on erosion control, soil conservation, environment protection and community education in order to increase food production and security. The project is impacting an estimated population of 90,000 people!
FH Canada's International Medical Equipment Distribution (IMED) program delivers hope, health and life-saving medical equipment to communities who are often unable to meet even the most basic medical needs. This project supports this community’s growth of medical sustainability and, ultimately, its member’s physical wellness.
The goal of this project is to restore the secondary school located in Musema. By educating tomorrow’s leaders, this school will be a critical component in rebuilding a nation that has been torn apart by decades of mistrust and violence. Regardless of their ethnicity, religious orientation or gender, community members agree on the value and opportunity that this project will provide for their children.
