Violence against women is highly prevalent in Peru: approximately 83% of women are victims of physical or psychological abuse. This project works to decrease domestic violence through educating families about their rights, providing counselling and helping women develop income-generating skills. This program is done in partnership with local churches, empowering them to practically reach out to families in their community.

In a country where opportunities for secondary education are slim, Ugandan youth are especially vulnerable to poverty. Having a marketable skill is invaluable and opens up doors for them to work and make a steady income. FH built a Trade School, but it needs equipment. Having equipment for specialized trades will help make the school a self-sustaining institution and improve the quality of vocational training. The community’s economy will also flourish with job creation and availability of services. Students will graduate as qualified carpenters, professional hairdressers, experienced tailors, proficient office workers or trained mechanics.

It’s a critical situation spiralling towards catastrophic. Families throughout East Africa are experiencing the worst drought to impact the region in 60 years. Desperate for food and help, many are fleeing to refugee camps in record numbers. Approximately 4.5 million Ethiopians will need urgent food assistance in the coming months. Food for the Hungry's (FH) mission is to walk alongside the most vulnerable in an effort to eradicate poverty. One way we are pursuing this huge task is by investing into mothers around the world. Volunteer "Leader Mothers" are trained to teach, serve and promote health and wellness to others in their communities, especially pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of two, where the burden of illness is the greatest. The Leader Mothers each train at least 10 women who agree to train 10 more until the knowledge has rippled out to the entire community. One by one, women are recognizing strengths and resources they didn't even know they had.

FH organizes groups of 10 - 12 community members into Community Savings Groups who are educated with invaluable skills like literacy, book-keeping, money management and personal savings. In countries where women are often oppressed, these groups have incredible potential as the group members set aside their savings and watch them grow into substantial amounts that can then be loaned out to others in their community.
